Professor Choong is The Lead Investigator in the National Health and Medical Research Council’s Centre for Research Excellence in Total Joint Surgery.
Professor Choong’s research which has been supported by recurrent grant funding (from NHMRC, ARC, RACS, Australian Orthopaedic Association, Cancer Australia) focuses on improving outcomes of arthritis surgery, studying the treatment of bone tumours and advanced limb reconstruction.
He has contributed over 450 peer-reviewed articles.
Professor Choong has taught extensively during his career on orthopaedic reconstruction and oncology. He leads an ambitious programme of musculoskeletal research that includes basic science, bioengineering, clinic-epidemiology, orthopaedics and orthopaedic oncology.
He is currently the Director of the NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence in Total Joint Surgery and is also an NHMRC Practitioner Fellow. He has been supported by recurrent grants totalling in excess of $28 million.
